Maximum Security Wins Inaugural Saudi Cup
Champion MAXIMUM SECURITY (New Year's Day), who boasts Seattle Slew on both sides of his pedigree, battled down the stretch to overtake the race leader and cross under the wire first by three-quarters-of-a-length in the $20 million Saudi Cup on Feb. 29. Making his first start of 2020, the four-year-old colt ran the 1800 meters, approximately 1 1/8 miles, in a time of 1:50 2/5 at King Abdulaziz Racetrack in the world's richest race.
Maximum Security's sire is out of Justwhistledixie (Dixie Union) and his dam, Lil Indy, is by the A.P. Indy stallion Anasheed, giving the winning colt a 6x5 cross to Seattle Slew.
During his championship season last year, Maximum Security won the Florida Derby (G1), Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1), Cigar Mile Handicap (G1) and Bold Ruler Handicap (G3). He has now won eight of 10 starts.
Raced last year by his breeders, Gary and Mary West, Maximum Security was making his first start in the Coolmore silks after the global organization purchased a half-interest in the colt during the winter. Regular rider Luis Saez was on board the winner.
The Slew Crew congratulates Maximum Security and his connections on the fantastic victory.
