6/29/10 - Life At Ten Soars in Ogden Phipps

LIFE AT TEN (Malibu Moon) continued to reach new heights on June 12 with her first grade 1 score. Facing four other distaffers in the $250,000 Ogden Phipps Handicap (G1), the five-year-old mare stumbled out of the gate but quickly recovered to set a fast pace of :23 1/5, :45 2/5, 1:08 2/5 and 1:34 on her way toward completing the 1 1/16 miles in 1:40 3/5 over the fast Belmont Park main oval. She crossed under the wire 2 3/4 lengths ahead of her nearest competitor.

Grade 1 winner Funny Moon (Malibu Moon) was outrun for the first half but gained steadily to finish a head behind the second-place finisher and 17 lengths ahead of the fourth-place runner.

Life at Ten has now won five consecutive starts and banked more than $450,000. She won two listed stakes before taking the Sixty Sails Handicap (G3) earlier this year. The Seattle Slew great-granddaughter was bred in Kentucky and was produced from the Rahy mare Rahrahsixboombah.

Congratulations to Life At Ten, owner Cynthia DeBartolo, breeder Nickelback Farm, trainer Todd Pletcher, jockey John Velazquez and the rest of the mare's connections. Best wishes for continued success.
