Golden Itiz Graduates in Affirmed
GOLDEN ITIZ (Tiznow), making just his fourth career start, secured his first graded stakes score in the $100,000 Affirmed Handicap (G3) at Hollywood Park on June 19. The dark bay/brown sophomore colt stalked the pace down the backstretch, came out into the drive and rallied down the stretch to catch the eventual runner-up and cross the line a half-length in front. He completed 1 1/16 miles over the fast all-weather surface in 1:42 4/5.
The Seattle Slew great-great-grandson now has three wins and one third-place effort to go along with nearly $120,000 in earnings. Golden Itiz was bred in Kentucky and was produced from the Dixieland Band mare Golden Tiy. The 20-year-old broodmare is also the dam of Grade 2 winner Sapphire n' Silk (Pleasant Tap), an unraced two-year-old filly name Pulpit Angel (Pulpit) and an unnamed yearling colt by Corinthian (Pulpit).
Congratulations to Golden Itiz, owner Jay Em Ess Stable, breeder William Carl, trainer Ron Ellis, jockey Tyler Baze and the rest of the colt's connections. Best wishes for continued success from the Slew Crew.
