6/29/10 - Devil May Care Cruises to Mother Goose Victory

DEVIL MAY CARE (Malibu Moon) rebounded from her unsuccessful Run for the Roses against the boys in style on June 26 with a 1 1/4-length victory in the $250,000 Mother Goose Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park. Facing a short field of four other sophomore fillies, Devil May Care bobbled at the start, but then settled in the four path down the backstretch. Running in hand, she easily inched her way up from midpack around the turn and took command at the top of the stretch. Winning as she pleased over the fast main track, the big bay filly completed the 1 1/16-mile feature in a time of 1:42.

Biofuel (Stormin Fever), who was off slowly, trailed the field early on, but closed well enough for third-place honors.

The victory provided Devil May Care with her fourth visit to the winner's circle. Earlier this year, she won the Bonnie Miss Stakes (G2), and last year she captured the Frizette Stakes (G1). She has earned nearly $550,000 from seven starts.

A Kentucky-bred great-granddaughter of Seattle Slew, Devil May Care was produced from Kelli's Ransom (Red Ransom), who is also the dam of multiple Grade/Group 2 winner Regal Ransom (Distorted Humor).

The Slew Crew congratulates Devil May Care, owner Glencrest Farm, breeder Diamond A Racing Corp., trainer Todd Pletcher, jockey John Velazquez and the rest of the filly's connections. Best wishes for continued success.
