Happy Derby Day, Seattle Slew
Slew,
On May 7,1977, you overcame every obstacle standing between you and the Kentucky Derby winner's circle. (From Derby Eve to the starting gate).
You broke slowly and came out of the gate mad and determined. You fought your way to the lead. Then you looked at Angel Cordero and For The Moment, gave them your eye and the rest was history. That day, 48 years ago, you won the first leg of your historic undefeated Triple Crown victory.
This year, you have 13 descendants entered in the Derby, including Journalism. Don Alberto Corporation bred the colt, who boasts your blood through his second dam, a daughter of Bernardini, in Kentucky. And Don Alberto Stable is one of your owners. You are buried at Don Alberto Farm, and we are so happy to be cheering for Journalism and wishing that he earns the blanket of Derby roses this year.
We love you and miss you everyday, Slew. Thank you for the wonderful memories. You had such heart.
God bless you, Seattle Slew.
Love,
Karen & Mickey
