Seattle Shamus Colt, Filly Named Oregon Champions
Seattle Slew's son SEATTLE SHAMUS was represented by Oregon's champion two-year-old colt and filly of 2009. Smoken Sham and Shame On Rosie were honored during the Oregon Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association annual awards banquet on March 13.
The two state champions capped their successful juvenile seasons with victories during the Dec. 14, 2009, Oregon Championship Day at Portland Meadows. Smoken Sham, a gray/roan gelding, won the $21,050 Bill Wineberg Stakes, while Shame On Rosie, a bay filly, took the $20,000 Janet Wineberg Stakes.
Smoken Sham, who is out of the Baquero mare Belle Fourche, was bred by his owner Pat Cosgrove and is trained by Ben Root.
Shame On Rosie, who was produced from Yorkist Rose (Irish Tower), was bred by Dr. & Mrs. Jack B. Root Jr. and races for Gate 2 Wire Racing. She is also trained by Ben Root.
Seattle Shamus, who was bred by and raced for Karen and Mickey Taylor and Albert Finney, stood stud at Oakhurst Thoroughbreds before succumbing to colic in 2007. His last foals are two-years-olds this year. During his time on the track, Seattle Shamus earned more than $125,000.
The Slew Crew congratulates Smoken Sham and Shame On Rosie and their connections. We wish you continued success.
