5/3/26 - Congratulations Golden Tempo and Always a Runner

Seattle Slew was doubly represented when his progeny won the Kentucky Oaks (G1) on Friday, May 1, and the Kentucky Derby (G1) on May 2.

The Slew Crew congratulates ALWAYS A RUNNER, who is out of a Malibu Moon mare, on her victory in the Oaks. Bred in Kentucky by Three Chimneys Farm, Always a Runner is trained by Chad Brown and was ridden to victory by Jose Ortiz. She is owned by Douglas Scharbauer and Three Chimneys Farm (Goncala Torrealba).

Finishing third in Kentucky Oaks was Counting Stars (Honor A. P.), who boasts Seattle Slew on both sides of her pedigree.

On the first Saturday in May, GOLDEN TEMPO made a huge closing run to win the 152nd Kentucky Derby. The bay colt is out of a Bernardini mare and was bred in Kentucky by his owners. The Slew Crew congratulates owners and breeders Phipps Stable (Daisy Phipps Pulito) and St. Elias Stables. (Vincent Viola), trainer Cherie DeVaux and jockey Jose Ortiz. With the win, Cherie DeVaux becomes the first female trainer of a Derby winner and Jose Ortiz completed the rare Oaks-Derby double.

In the Run for the Roses, Golden Tempo was followed under the wire by Renegade, whose second dam is by Bernardini.

We wish Golden Tempo and Always a Runner and their connections continued success.
