Runhappy, Mongolian Saturday Represent Slew at Breeders' Cup
Three-year-old RUNHAPPY (Super Saver) set a new track record at Keeneland on Oct. 31 when he captured the $1.5 million Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) by three-quarters-of-a-length. The bay colt raced just off the pace before closing furiously down the stretch to stop the clock in 1:08 2/5 for six furlongs over the fast main track.
From the first crop of Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Super Saver (Maria's Mon), who is out of Supercharger (A.P. Indy), Runhappy has now won three graded tests this season: the King's Bishop Sakes (G1) at Saratoga, which he won in stakes record time, and the Phoenix Stakes (G3) during Keeneland's fall meet. The Seattle Slew great-great-grandson has six wins from seven starts and earnings of more than $1.3 million.
Congratulations to Runhappy; owner James McIngvale; breeders Wayne, Gray and Bryan Lyster; trainer Maria Borell; and jockey Edgar Prado on the fantastic victory.
Three races earlier, five-year-old MONGOLIAN SATURDAY (Any Given Saturday) found a great time to step up his game, winning the $1 million Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1) by a neck. The bay gelding, who boasts Seattle Slew on both sides of his pedigree, had a two-length lead at the top of the stretch and managed to hold off his competition to blitz 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03 over the good turf course.
Mongolian Saturday's sire is out of Weekend in Indy (A.P. Indy) while his dam, Miss Hot Salsa is by Seattle Slew's son Houston. The winner has not missed the board once in 10 starts this season and now has more than $960,000 in the bank.
The Slew Crew congratulates Mongolian Saturday, owner Mongolian Farm, breeder Normany Farm, trainer Enebish Ganbat and jockey Florent Geroux on the wonderful race.
Best wishes to Runhappy and Mongolian Saturday in the future.
